Themes- Difficult Childhood

"I instinctively started aside with a cry of alarm: not soon enough, however;the volume was flung, it hit me, and I fell, striking my head against the door and cutting it. The cut bled, the pain was sharp: my terror had passed it's climaxed; other feelings succeeded" (pg.6).

During Jane's childhood she was tormented by her cousin John, physically, and mentally abused by her aunt, and constantly reminded of her inferior stance. To say the least Jane endured a rough childhood growing up in an environment where your not loved and fed only to survive. Jane stayed strong and never gave up, she didn't let her evil Aunt and cousins effect her life. Jane shows great courage in the first few chapters as she deals with her hardships and I think it's a great message to all the readers to never give up!

  1. Excellent quote! It really the tormented childhood Jane did have, Although I think your descriptions should have been a little longer. It's short, but you put a decent amount of description in it and also added how you feel. You should try and go into depth more about how the quote describes the situation, by maybe using a scene in the book.
